Is it worth doing SEO in 2025?

Everywhere I hear that:

  • SEO is dead
  • ChatGPT have been killing SEO
  • Google steals your web traffic
  • Only sites with strong backlink authority get web traffic
  • People have stopped using Google search and are using ChatGPT instead
  • Getting backlinks has become more difficult

And so on, and so forth…

My main question is: Should I continue doing SEO in 2025 or not, and why? What is the future of SEO with AI?

Let's break it down:

ChatGPT have been killing SEO

Since the rise of ChatGPT and similar AI tools, there has been a flood of AI-generated content.

Much of it is unhelpful, often looking like spam or junk, which turns visitors away. This damages SEO because people don’t want to read low-quality and AI-generated content.

However, Google is actively working to ban sites that rely on this kind of content.

If you abuse AI to manipulate search results, expect penalties.

Using ChatGPT instead of searching on Google

People prefer using ChatGPT over Google search to find simple information or ask questions.

I’m the same way. But ChatGPT keeps advancing – it now shows links to websites in its answers.

So, how can your site appear in ChatGPT’s results?

The answer is to keep working on your backlinks and building your backlink profile. Your site needs to be authoritative, trustworthy, and linked to by other authority sites.

Losing a lot of SEO search traffic

Google makes money by adding more paid results in search. So, your content is getting pushed further down. Even if you rank first, there are four paid positions above yours.

Google also has AI Overviews, which can also steal web traffic.

And where does Google get the information for this block? Of course, from our sites. From your sites and from my sites.

Thus, Google steals web traffic.

So, considering these facts, having your website in the first position in search results may not be as great as you think and can lead to losing a lot of traffic.

There is another opinion about backlinks. Today, SEO is difficult because one of the main ranking factors in search results is the backlink profile, and getting backlinks is becoming more challenging.

If you don't know, backlinks are links from other websites to yours. They are very important for ranking your site on Google.

If you look at the top 10 sites in search results, you'll notice that all of them have a high Domain Rating and a strong backlink portfolio.

What tools or solutions can we use to improve this factor on your website?

I have some great news about how to boost Domain Rating simply, quickly, and cheaply.

I'm creating a service that crawls authority websites like ProductHunt, Forbes, Medium, and others to find trusted expired domains with quality backlinks.

All you need to do is:

  • Go to Gone.Domains and sign up
  • Use the convenient filter to find trusted expired domains related to your website topic
  • Buy the expired domains from any registrar you prefer
  • Set up a 301 redirect from the expired domains to your site. This will pass “link juice” from each backlink of the expired domains to your site

In my case, this strategy boosted my site’s Domain Rating. I bought 4 high-quality expired domains with strong backlinks.

In my opinion, SEO will still be important in 2025.

You should continue creating unique and useful content that people will want to share.

ChatGPT won’t kill SEO — if, tomorrow, it starts placing links to sources or original materials on its results page, people will start seeing SEO as the future of marketing.
